Legal Internet Casino Project

The Obama Administration Justice Department rendered an opinion in September 2011, and made public in December 2011 , which reversed decades of previous U.S. government policy that included civil and criminal charges against operators of some of the most popular online poker sites.  Except for online sports betting, the new federal government position is that online gambling is legal at the federal level and states are encouraged to create their own laws governing this activity. 

The administration cleared the way for states to legalize internet poker and certain other online betting in a switch designed to spur web-based gambling in the U.S. market.   Several states have already introduced legislative changes needed to make this legal in their respective jurisdictions.  Some are planning to vote on legalization of Online Gambling in the near future.
